FIVE RESERVOIRS – MONDAY 28TH   NOVEMBER 2016

Walk Leader Harry Bretherton (with much appreciated input from 13 others).

The day started dry but rather overcast as 14 of us (plus Levi the dog) left the car park of the Royal Arms, Tockholes.
The intention of the walk was to go round the five principal reservoirs in the area by taking a route skirting the lower reaches of Darwen Tower, passing Earnsdale Reservoir, along Donkey Brew and then into Tockholes Plantation.  By the time we reached Donkey Brew the grey skies had parted to reveal an unseasonably warm sun that stayed with us for the rest of the walk.
Lunch was taken overlooking Rake Brook Reservoir before setting off again through No 3 Plantation eventually emerging onto Tockholes Road.  Crossing over the road we travelled along Cartridge Hill until eventually arriving back at our starting point having covered a distance of some 9.7 miles. (apologies for the missing 0.3) Special   thanks must go John Crook who once again was a mine of information not only about the topography of the area, both also the history.
