The Walk:-

Walk leader Dave Taylor.

Fifteen of us met at Black Hill above Sabden with the forecast giving a fine clear day for our "All Hallows Day" walk on Pendle.

We first headed to the Trig. point on Black Hill and down through the woods to Hillside Farm and the Whalley to Sabden road.  We then started the long climb via Higher Whins and Parsley Barn to reach the Nick. The main track took us over Apronfull Hill to Badger Wells Hill, then by an indistinct track we followed Howcroft Brook to it's source on Pendle Moor and passed the Scout Cairn (where we had a brief stop) and the Wind Shelter, before follwing the Northern Edge to the summit.  The views all round were as clear as you would ever get, Black Combe and the Langdale Pikes were clearly visible, and for the rest of the day light was as good as I have ever seen. Due south from the summit took us to Under Pendle and field paths into Barley, where lunch was taken.

Newchurch was our next target where we visited the Church to see the "Eye of God" and the grave of one of the Nutters (not Alice).  Passing over Saddlers Height and Driver Height we descended by Wood House Brook above Stainscomb to Ratten Clough and down into the "Hidden Valley".  Almost finished now, a short sharp pull took us back over Padiham Heights to our cars.  Fourteen miles and finishing at 3.30 after a perfect day of weather. Thank's to all who came I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.

Dave.
