The Walk:-

Walk leaders - Glyn and Julie Watson.

Walk distance - 14.6 miles.

Twenty walkers and Nellie the dog set off from Malham National Park Centre on a fine but overcast morning. Our route followed the path of the River Aire, where we passed a mill converted into holiday lets. Crossing the river at Kirby Malham we followed the Penine Way to Airton, turning east to Carlton where we passed the stone circle.

The group then continued the two mile ascent to Weets Top, stopping for a morning break. After descending Weets to Gordale Scar, we split into two teams with the majority of walkers determined to climb the waterfall, whilst the other team took the alternative route up Grey Gill. All meeting up again at the top for our lunch break.

Setting off again after lunch we headed to Malham Tarn. Continuing along a tree lined path, the plan was to turn off to cross Tarn Moss on the boardwalk. Unfortunately the entrance was missed by one of the leaders, however we continued to High Tren House following the path to Dean Moor.

Crossing Dean Moor to the spelting chimney, we joined the main path to Malham Cove. We then stoped for an afternoon break before crossing the limestone pavement and descending the steps back to Malham.

Thanks to all who joined us and to Stan for taking the photos.

Thanks Glyn an Julie for leading the walk and for sending me this report.
