The Walk:-

Walk leader - John Titterington.

Number on the walk - 16

Weather - Generally cloudy, but very mild and humid.

To all intents and purposes the walk was a circuit of Bleasdale, starting from the picnic site car park at Brockmill, then heading up through fields, via Lickhurst, to the road under Beacon Fell. After a short walk along road, we turned left and followed paths and tracks down and across the valley, to our morning coffee break at Higher Fair Snape, passing through Broadhead, Lower Core and Blindhurst on the way. Leading on from there, we continued on our way through the farm at Holme House, to our major climb of the day, namely the long diagonal ascent up to Fiendsdale Head, where a mild welcoming breeze took some of the sweat from our faces. A faint path across a boggy section of moorland led us to the shooter's track on Bleasdale Moors, which we followed to our lunch break, in a stone pit, near Calder Dyke.

After lunch, and still on the shooter's track, we passed under the summit of Hazelhurst Fell (some of us naughtily nipping off to visit the trig point) and downwards through purple heather to Stang Yule. All together again, the last leg of our walk took us back to our cars, via the farms at Landskill, Cobble Hey and Foggs Farm, then along Gonder Lane and Brock Mill Lane. An overall distance of around 14.5 miles.

Thanks John for leading the walk and for giving us chance to take in the super views on the way, particularly those from the track on Hazelhurst Fell.

Stan.
