The Walk.

Walk  leader:- Jaqui Peaks.

Six walkers set out from Birk Bank car park at 9.00 am with the weather looking fine for the day. We first went NE on a pleasant track to be surprised by several peacocks wandering in the gorse.  Our way went by Pott Yeats, Crossgill and then around the narrow valley of Littledale.  The morning break was taken, in a sunny spot, in the old garden of Littledale Hall.

From here the ground rose and we had great views of the Three Peaks and Lakeland. We made our way gradually to the top of Clougha Pike with the views opening to include Morecambe Bay, the Fylde coast and even the Isle of Man.  We had lunch in the wind shelter and this ended with the first of several short snow showers which alternated with sunshine during the afternoon.  Our way continued across Grit Fell and then dropped down to reach Lower Lee. A walk through fields eventually brought us to Hare Appletree   and more excellent views over Lancaster. A few more fields and we were on Rigg Lane and the short walk back to the cars.

It was a day of excellent views, good weather, spring flowers, hares and even a couple of swallows watching our progress from a telephone wire.

Thanks to Jaqui for leading the walk and to Shirley for taking the pictures.
