Walk from The Croft Tuesday March 29th

West of Euxton Walk Tuesday 29 March 20016

Even though it is now officially spring time, at 8:00 am today , it seemed that snow shoes would be needed for the walk rather than walking boots and possibly that the walk would be snowed off. However, 21 hardy souls turned up (including two of the canine variety), for a walk on a day which turned out to be more spring than Arctic like.

We started from 4 The Croft, in the north west of Euxton, and headed west over the M6 foot bridge (for the first of four crossings of the M6), then headed south to the River Yarrow and followed the Yarrow East, to the A49 which we followed briefly northwards to the woods on the southerly edge of Euxton Park which we followed westwards then crossing over the M6 and then heading back to the Yarrow and then following it westwards passing alongside Billlinge Wood before heading north and crossing Culbeck Brook. After a short walk along the A581 towards Ulnes Walton we headed north towards the river Lostock; we followed this before heading east to loop via Runshaw Moor back  to  the west of Euxton and to the Croft for refreshments and hot pie and peas.

A somewhat leisurely walk of about 10 miles in relatively flat countryside; we were very fortunate in that early morning semi-blizzard weather turned to pleasant often sunny weather during our walk and just as we were  departing from Euxton,  rain came down - luck or good planning?
