Garstang walk Tuesday March 22nd

Tuesday Walk 22.3.16

12 members and 2 dogs met in Garstang car park on a dry but overcast day for a walk which included some inclines and local history. The route started by the river leaving behind the recently flooded playing fields and took the river path behind Garstang.  After crossing the Wyre the group walked left by St Mary’s church with Greenhalgh Castle on the left before heading to cross dry fields!

The group saw race horse training as they passed the circuit & then dropped down to Calder Vale.  From there the route went to Grisedale via Birks Farm & Burns Farm dropping down the steep but fortunately dry steps to Grize Dale. Lunch was then enjoyed by Grizedale Brook.  At this point the lack of a photographer to record the walk was noted and Julie took up the role.

After following the brook and passing the dark reservoirs the route was up Nicky Nook to enjoy the views from the Trig Point. Then down and onto Snowhill Lane to pick up a series of paths to cross the motorway at Woodacre Hall. We returned to Garstang crossing the flood plain to the flood control. The debris from flooding was being cleared along the route.  A dry 11 mile walk was enjoyed by all.
