Walk from Skirethorns June 27th

9 people started off on this 18 miles walk from Skirethorns Lane, Threshfield, on what promised to be a beautiful June day. It was already warm, the sun was out and the fields were full of wild flowers as we made our way through Linton and the hamlet of Thorpe en-route to Burnsall. Here we walked alongside the River Wharfe to the suspension bridge where we stopped for morning coffee. We had a slightly longer stop than usual watching a group of D of E girls gingerly making their way over the stepping stones. Glyn, Joyce and Walter decided they would use these whilst the rest of us crossed the bouncy suspension bridge and then on into Hebden village.

Following Hebden Beck, which several of the group had never been to before, we walked through the disused mine area continuing through fields to pick up a short section of the Dalesway just north of Grassington. After lunch we walked over limestone scenery making our way above the picturesque ravine of Dib Beck before descending to pass through Conistone.

The scenery changed to open moorland for the next few miles with us crossing Kilnsey Moor and Malham Moor with superb panoramic views in all directions. After a short stop for refreshments we continued on good tracks along Threshfield Moor before turning off and descending the aptly named Green Lane returning to our cars about 4 pm.

The whole day had been glorious, great sunny weather, meadows full of flowers and the wonderful scenery of that part of the Yorkshire Dales.
