Childers Green, Hapton. Tues. 16 June 15

Childers Green, Hapton. Tuesday 16th. June 15

Eleven walkers and five dogs set off from Mill Hill Lane picnic area, Childers Green, on a pleasant but slightly overcast morning to walk the Huncoat Trail in two separate loops.

In the morning we passed through Castle Clough Wood before crossing over the railway line and then under the motorway bridge.  We walked along the banks of the Leeds to Liverpool canal for 1.5 miles before crossing several fields and over the railway level crossing to return to the picnic area at 11.50am for lunch.

In the afternoon we walked through Hameldon Wood and Hameldon Scouts before crossing the top of Accrington Coppice and passing through Peel Park.  We saw the ancient village stocks in Huncoat before returning to the picnic area for 2.30pm.  By this time the sky had cleared and it was much warmer.
