Childers Green, Tues 14th April 2015

On a bright fine morning seventeen of us gathered at Childers Green to walk the "Huncoat Trail".  Our leader Dave had organised it into two loops with lunch back at our cars.  Our morning loop took us steeply uphill onto Hameldon Scouts within the old quarry workings, with great views accross to Bowland and Pendle.  Field paths took us past Windy Harbour and to the top of Peel Park overlooking Accrington.  A pleasant descent through woodland took us into Huncoat and back to Childers Green at about 12-30 for lunch.

The Afternoon loop had us descending above the impressive Castle Clough to cross over the railway and under the motorway and join the Leeds to Liverpool canal for a mile or so.  More field paths returned us again to Huncoat where a short stroll down Mill Hill Lane returned us to our cars.  Two five mile loops in good countryside with good views all around, set in the middle of industrial Lancashire.
Thanks Dave for a very good day out enjoyed by all.
