Sawley Brow - Tues. 9th..Dec. 14

Sawley Brow - Tuesday 9th. December 2014

The weather forecast for the day was not good, with strong winds for the morning and heavy rain from mid afternoon. Nevertheless seventeen walkers and four dogs were ready for the off with our intrepid leader Glenn.

We had walked all of ten yards, at the first stile, when big Ken went full length off a very slippery step, but he was up like a flash, no harm done. Our way lay through a number of fields and the farm at Dudland before dropping down to Rimmington Bridge.  Onward to Gazegill where there were dozens of piglets and a number of Sows waiting to farrow.  A little bit of road walking followed until we crossed the Gisburn to Blacko road and headed up to Coal Pit Lane. This took us onto the flanks of Weets Hill and then a direct climb to the trig point, where we felt the full force of the wind, but the views were very good.  A quick descent took us to Weets House, where we managed to find shelter behind stone walls whilst we had our dinner.

The view during our stop was towards Pendle, which was clear of mist, but before we had reached Craven Laith the 'Old Hill' was sporting a cap, which grew steadily bigger as we made our way back past Tory Log Clough towards Rimmington. A right turn by the side of the now defunct Black Bull saw us join our outward route by the railway, and another half a mile brought us back to the cars, making the walk around 11 miles in all. Luckily before any rain had fallen.

Thanks Glenn for an enjoyable walk on a good varied route, without too much mud!!!
