Walk from Jumbles Sailing Club

On the coldest morning of the winter so far 14 of us gathered at Jumbles Sailing Club for the start of this walk led by Kath Page and although it was a bit nippy the forecast for the day was quite good. Our route took us past Turton Tower and along Witton Weavers Way before turning left and heading uphill to the trig point and stone circle on Cheetham Close on what is always a muddy, wet path and today was no exception.  As the rest of the group prepared to descend towards Dimple, Jeff was doing his own thing and continuing on over the rough moor of Turton Heights to bag a minor top from one of his many lists, this one a P30 Tump. (Jeff will enlighten you!)

The descent was extremely muddy and care was needed to keep upright but no-one slipped and we all made it safely to the road where we continued, still on the Witton Weavers Way, along Catherine Edge, stopping for a coffee near to Charlie’s Pole. We  had a fairly early lunch stop at the Mildred Barker memorial seat where the sun came out but a cool wind was blowing as we resumed our walk following the Amble route in reverse. We had a brief stop at the Strawbury Duck and then picked up a short section of the Two Crosses Walk before making our way back through Turton Bottoms to the sailing club where the bar was open and Kath served  tea and coffee at only 30p and 40p a mug along with complimentary mince pies. An absolute bargain and a fine end to a good day out!
