Barley. Tues 11 Nov. 14

Barley. Tuesday 11th. November 2014

A grey, misty morning saw 12 walkers and 2 dogs leave Barley car park for a walk on and around Pendle.  Passing to the North of Barley Hill we passed through Under Pendle farm and onto Ogden Hill before dropping into Ogden Clough.  The route continued up the clough with a strong drizzly wind behind us, luckily we reached the small subsidiary Dry Clough at a few minutes to 11, sheltered from the wind and rain we observed the two minutes silence.

Continuing up the clough over some increasingly rough ground we came to the gate and stile just below Pendle's summit, where we had our lunch stop nicely out of the wind.  A traversing  the edge overlooking the Ribble Valley took us past the wind shelter and scout cairn before reaching the Clayton memorial cairn.  By this time the weather had turned quite nasty, but a drop into and easy climb out of Ashenden Clough saw us on our way back to Barley.  Up by the side of Deerstones quarry and a muddy crossing of Spence Moor enabled us to drop down to Ogden Upper Reservoir and the waterboard track down to Barley.

Dave.

Thanks to Dave for leading the walk but please, let's have better weather next time!
