There was a definite nip in the air at the start of this walk and the sixteen, who had all turned up quite early, set off round Worthington Lakes with a bit more gear on than of late. The route took us round the lakes (which are reservoirs for United Utilities really) before going through Arley woods, passing Crawshaw Hall and continuing with the River Douglas on our right and turning up to Aberdeen Farm and Little Scotland.

After a short pull up to Toddington Farm we were soon in Haigh and then the outskirts of Haigh Hall Country Park following a leafy path to a bridge over the Leeds Liverpool canal where we stopped for lunch and where, as I got up to take a photo, my sit- map disappeared through the railings onto the canal banking below. Gareth did try to find a way down to retrieve it but it was not to be. Hey ho!

The afternoon was an easy stroll, firstly ½ mile of canal then down another leafy path through Haigh Plantations to meet up with the River Douglas, this time on our left hand side. We finished the walk leaving the canal and going through the new Worthington Estate to arrive back at the cars just before 2pm having done 10 miles.
