Jumbles - Tues. 29 April 14

Walk from Jumbles Res. Tuesday 29th. April 2014

Today's walk was from the most south/westerly of the three public car parks serving the recreational area that surrounds Jumbles Reservoir.

The start was delayed a few minutes or so, as one or two members were having difficulties finding the correct car park. But eventually we mustered and 17 of us accompanied by 4 dogs set off for our 10 mile walk. The walk itself was essentially a circuit of the three reservoirs, namely Turton and Entwistle, Wayoh and Jumbles Reservoirs, punctuated in places with history in the form of  the 15th. century Turton Tower, the old School House in Chapeltown, and tastefully restored properties to remind us of how the area once looked.

The day was warm and sunny, the water in the reservoirs was blue, the woodland was all in its new greenery and the ground, in many places, was carpeted in bluebells and other wild flowers. How remote we felt to be from the bustling industrial town of Bolton and it's gloomy past, when in fact we were only a mile or two away from the town centre.

Thanks Kath, it was a lovely walk.
