Chipping - Tues. 22 April 14

Chipping 22nd April 2014

It was disappointing that after a fine and mainly sunny Easter weekend, as we approached the start of the walk in Chipping, a light drizzle was falling and the Bowland Hills in front of us, were heavily shrouded in mist. Nevertheless a nice sized group of 16 assembled on the car park to see what delights our walk leader Pauline had in store for us. Once we got started we soon realised she'd been saying her prayers, because as we headed up the road to Fell Foot, the rain passed over and the mist lifted from the hills. Our route took us up onto Parlick, then round the ridge to Fair Snape Fell. This section of the walk, on a clear day, must be one of the most scenic in Lancashire. From the summit of Fair Snape Fell, Pauline then took us down the zig zags to our lunch stop a short distance from the farm at Higher Fair Snape.

Heading back now in the general direction of Chipping, we skirted round the foot of Parlick, passing through Blindhurst and Wolfen Hall. Unfortunately Pauline must devote more time to her prayers in future as by now it was raining quite heavily. Shortly before Saddle End Farm we changed direction again and headed generally downhill, passing through Nan King's Farm and what once was Berry's hand crafted funiture works, then to our cars in Chipping.

A pleasant and varied walk of almost 10 miles, in an area familiar and much loved by most on the walk. Thanks Pauline.
