Tuesday Walk, March 11th

12 people turned up at Rowley car park for the start of this Tuesday walk. The weather was very spring-like, the sun was shining and we had the promise of a good day ahead. After a circuit of the lake we picked up the Burnley Way which we were to follow for much of the day. We progressed through Houghton Woods, which were a bit muddy in places, but hey ho! the weather made up for that. We headed for Swinden Reservoirs and a delightful moorland section, crossing Rapes Clough to, reach the Widdop road where, after descending for ¾ mile, we had an enjoyable lunch stop.

The afternoon followed more of the Burnley Way through Thursden valley eventually coming to Shore’s Hey farm which is a Happa animal sanctuary for horses. I think some members would have taken several home, particularly the donkeys, Choco and Reece, which had been there since they were rescued in 2006. However we did get on our way  again through Cockden and field paths on the outskirts of Harle Syke before leaving the Burnley Way and making our way back to the car park.

Thanks to Glenn for a well thought out walk which had plenty of variety in it and finishing at 2.30pm. with exactly 10 miles done.
