Bashall Eaves Walk

Bashall Eaves Walk - 12 November 2013

Set in the Ribble Valley and on a lovely sunny day, with the Autumn colours at their best, Bashall Eaves was a fine place from which to base our walk.

Starting from the village hall car park, Chris our walk leader for the day, took us out past Mason Green and Aigden Farm, then down into a series of deep cloughs alongside the River Hodder, to the rather splendid bridge in Limes Wood. Continuing on through fields to the Roman Road, we then headed past the farms at Lower and Higher Lees, before making the gradual ascent, through Radholme Laund and Higher Top Barn, to our lunch stop by the Lime Kiln and small quarry above Whitewell.

Now refreshed we headed eastwards through Higher Park Gate to the trig point on Browsholme Height, where we had our customary stop for photos (some I may add more interesting than others!). Nearby is the interesting house called Spire, whose chimneys give the impression of a castellated tower. Beyond there we headed down through fields to Browsholme Farm and onwards, along minor country lanes, crossing Middle Brook Bridge, Talbot Bridge and Saddle Bridge on the way back to our cars in Bashall Eaves.

The walk was very marginally over 10 miles in length, and on such a beautiful autumn day, and in such lovely countryside, it was a joy to be out walking. It was just a pity recent heavy rain had made the fields very soft and wet, and in places very muddy.

Thanks a lot Chris, your efforts were appreciated by all 11 on the walk.

Stan.
