BROADGATE

Broadgate Preston Tuesday 3rd Sept 2013

On a nice warm day 6 walkers set off at 10.a.m. along the Ribble Way, through Miller Park and Avenham Park where Bob caught us up, so now we were the magnificent 7.

From the Shaws Arms pub we followed the river upto and pass the Tickled Trout on to Brockholes Nature Reserve, through past the lakes and through the woods along the River Ribble again to

the lunch stop on picnic tables over looking the lakes and visitor centre.

Then back along the other side of the river towards Preston , past Cuerdale Hall Farm where on the river was found the "Cuerdale Hoard" in 1840, a viking treasure trove buried around AD 905 to 910.

Onwards across a few fields where Bob and Brian went ahead, but when we reached Rivbbleside Farm Path up to the road they had disappeared, then had gone on along the river, got lost in some private woods and had to be let out through a locked gate by some fisherman. We did not know where they had gone so we carried on through Walton Le Dale, down Walton Green, along the river and eventually back to the cars on Broadgate, where Bob and Brian arrived 5 mins behind us, a very good day out, with a few laughs on the way.

12.7 miles in total  The motto is never to go in front of the leader!.

Thank you Terry for an entertaining and historical walk.
