UP & OVER

Tuesday 9th. July 13 - Up and Over.

Our planned walk leader Cath was unfortunately called into work at short notice. However, to save the day, Dave kindly stepped into the breach and led us from our starting point at  Ward's Reservoir, Belmont up and over Winter Hill and down to Rivington for a welcome coffee break. It was a beautiful sunny day and as we made our way to White Coppice temperatures were hitting the middle 20's.

'War Memorial in Leadmines Valley'                                                                 'Heads down above White Coppice'

From White coppice we sweated our way up to Great Hill. Instead of taking the popular path, we followed the more interesting way up the stream and past the derelict Great Hill Farm to the summit.

'Taking a breather on Great Hill'

Pleasant walking now as we made our way along Spitler's Edge to Horden Stoops and finally down to Belmont and round the 'Blue Lagoon' to our cars. An enjoyable walk in spite of the heat, although I'm sure most of us found the walk, at 15 miles, quite far enough given the conditions.

                       Thanks Dave.
