Weather:- A little overcast but dry and mild throughout.

Thirteen walkers and a dog set off from the car park in Settle following a poetry reading, under an overcast sky to walk the Settle Round. Walking up Castle Hill and onto Highway, it was only a short distance before we left the road and ascended the main track into the fields. Levelling off we then followed the well worn route towards Langcliffe, where Pen-y-Ghent could be viewed in the distance, at one point bearing on the right fork emerging finally on the main road. We immediately left the road at this point and ascended a broad stony track until we came across a marker post towards Victoria Cave, which was a short detour of a few hundred yards.

Victoria Cave is so named because an inner chamber was discovered on the day that Queen Victoria ascended the throne in 1837.

After looking at the cave, we retraced our steps back towards the main broad path, then scribing a broad easterly arc in the direction of Gorbeck. We followed this path for some distance prior to stopping for lunch at a high point on the moor. Continuing on, we finally came across a marker post turning us right and back towards Settle. Looking backwards, we had a stunning view of Malham Tarn. Heading over the moor, we dropped down to the large Stockdale farm, where we left the field and walked a short distance down Stockdale Lane, before entering the fields again, passing Attermire Scar and its magnificent limestone scenery. We then headed over the moor and dropped back down to settle, with good views of Warrendale Knotts.
