Distance:                     14.5 miles

Weather:                   Hot but nice breeze on the tops

This was a circular walk from Dunsop Bridge. It was quite hilly, but it was a clear day which gave fine views over Bowland. The first 3 miles were flat & easy but followed by a long ascent by Ram’s Clough onto the shallow col below Whin’s Brow and onto the top of Ouster Rake where we stopped for a well earned break.

It was getting hot by this stage but were cooled down by a welcome breeze.

We dropped to Brennand then up and over into Whitendale and climbed again to the top of Dunsop Head and had lunch on the descent with views of Pen-y-ghent & Pendle Hill. The next few miles were at a lower level and the weather was a bit too hot. We finally reached the nice swing bridge over the river and walked back by the River Hodder.

It was a hot but rewarding day finished off by ‘rehydrating’ in the Inn at Whitewell.
