Crummackdale/Inlebrough from Clapham, May 9th

Walk Leader - Nick Spencer

Number on walk - 12

Distance - 12.5 miles

Weather - brighten up as the day progressed with lovely sunshine by the end of the day but the summit of Ingleborough was in cloud.

The route followed Thwaite Lane out of Clapham, cutting under Robin Proctor's Scar and via Nappa Scars and Crummack Lane to the two much-photographed Clapper bridges on Austwick Beck. From there we followed Crummack Lane north, passing Austwick Beck Head, with good views of Pen Y Gent to the East, and crossing Beggar's Stile to cross the limestone pavement at the top end of Moughton Scars. We started the Ingleborough climb at Sulber, stopping for lunch at a wall some 40 minutes from the top. Predictably, Ingleborough itself offered a fleeting view of Ribblehead Viaduct, but then the mist came in. Descent was via Little Ingleborough, with a brief stop at Gaping Gill. Return to Clapham through Trow Gill and the farm at Clapdale. 12.5 miles, 2,400 feet.
