First Post Lockdown Walk - April 27th 2021

As Chair of the West Lancs Group of the LDWA I am really please to be able to present the walk report of our first Tuesday Group Social walk since March 2020!! It has been a long time but I am pleased to say that it was both well attended and went ahead with no apparent issues. It almost felt like old times!

Walk Date 27/04/2021

Distance 12 Miles.

Walk duration 5 Hours

Number walking 19

Walk Leader John Clarke

Start/finish point. Higher House Lane, Heapey. 603-194

The walk route was along Higher House Lane then onto the track past Higher Healey House before climbing Healey Nab. From the Nab the group picked up Healey Fold Lane to Kay's Farm and onto Back Lane. At Taylor's Farm the path across the fields past Hadocks Fold was taken through to Knowsley Embankment then onto the Yarrow Reservoir. From there it was into The Lead Mine Valley where a short coffee stop was taken before the long climb to Redmond Edge. The Edge was followed through to the base of Great Hill where the path down to the remains of Great Hill Farm was selected where lunch was taken.

Post lunch the group took the path across Heapey Moor and down through the Brinscall Plantation to The Goit which was followed through to White Coppice.

From White Coppice the path by the side of the Heapey Lodges was taken back to the start point.

Despite some rain right at the start of the walk the rest of the day remained dry and clear which afforded some excellent views of the entire region from the elevated sections of the route.

It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces on the walk and also two new members Chris and Janet.
