Staveley

Walk Leader:- Sue Fagg

No on walk:- 14

Distance:- 10 miles

Weather:- Bright autumnal day

The walk started at the north of Staveley village famous for making bobbins. Turning before St Margaret’s Tower the group crossed over the river Kent on a stylish bridge to start a gradual ascent to Potter Tarn and Gurnal Dubbs. The weather meant views across the southern Lake District were excellent and enjoyed during this quiet walk and lunch.

A gradual descent via open fields and a minor road brought us to Shepherds Green from where we descended further to join the Dales Way. Following the river Kent which was beautifully clear we passed though the hamlet of Cowan Head; a previous paper mill and now luxury apartments. A large heron oblivious to our group was seen as we continued to the road leading us into Staveley. The group went varied ways in the centre as some sought refreshments others returning to their car.
