RIVINGTON BARN WALK

Rivington Barn - Tuesday 22nd. October 2013

After a summer of settled weather, when numbers on our walks had dropped off, today promised to be rather wet at times and yes, numbers were back up to normal again.

Consequently 15 of us set off from the 'Bottom Barn' and made our way alongside the Lower Rivington Reservoir before turning up hill, past Ormston's Farm and Wilderswood, to George's Lane. By now it was raining heavens hard, improving only slightly as we made our way over Two Lads and past the TV mast on Winter Hill. Once out of the mist shrouding the top, visibility improved, but it was still raining as we took advantage of a park shelter for our lunch stop down in Belmont.

Our return was via Horden Stoops and Leadmines Valley, where at last the sky cleared and the sun came out, adding colour to the autumn tints, which were now begining to appear. The final leg of our walk took us past the almost empty Yarrow Reservoir and back to our cars by the 'Bottom Barn'.

Despite the early rain, there was happy chat throughout and all seemed to thoroughly enjoy the walk of approx. 11 miles.

Thanks John.
