A Joint Walk with Sherwood and High Peak Group.- 2023

This month’s social walk was another joint adventure along with the High Peak Group and Sherwood LDWA, arriving at Heatherdean car park we were met by a party in total of 23.

Bev was our leader today and broke out the bad news there was no café and more sacrilege no pub stop for lunch.

So 08:30 we were away with the first up of the day, the orrible Parkin Clough. And by lord it was warm and muggy. Onto the top of Whin Hill we had our first re-group catch up. With some getting a little cold as ol Roy T along with John H were trying to get Man, Dog and his Brother to join the LDWA.

All together now we began the route along the Roman Ridge towards the crossing of Snake Road. Then we began the shove up to Alport Castles where elevenses were had.

By now the wind was blowing a hoolie but the wet stuff had blown over, some were in tee shirts and some still had full wet gear on…

Eventually we had lunch at the Slippery Stones, it is here we said goodbye to Roy, Kirsty and Louise as Roy had to be back at the car for 16:30 and he did not relish the push up to Lost Lad.

After lunch the climbing began in earnest. First the route along the cycle track towards Howden Dam then we eventually began the climb towards to top. But first not that short route, Bev had other ideas…

A roundabout route eventually with two re-groups found the pile of stones that was Lost Lad then the short lump onto Back Tor.

Then began the long and i mean long. With the wind that had become a little bit of a nuisance too by now along the moor passing White Tor and Whinstone Lee Tor then the very sketchy path dropping us to the Ladybower Inn. Where most parted ways thanking Bev for a wonderful 24 mile day with 4000 ft of climbing.

Thanks Floz
