Decagon One - The Aggin StONE Amble

The Decagon Series of walks are 10 open challenge walks I have decided to walk as part of my 50-year-old celebrations.

Number one, as there are not many one walks, I decided on The Aggin StONE Amble.

Saturday 1st February 8:00am

Aaron & Pete turned up in Princess Charabanc, Chris arrived in his electric mayhem machine, Julie was first out the little red one when Little Mags fired up with.

“Hark what no Adrian on this cold and windy morn”.

“He was to lead, she said with such scorn”.

“Aaron was not pleased he said, what a swine”.

“We’ll be okay kids I have this old rag and twine”.

So we set of on this 19ish mile route around the Yorkshire/Lancashire border on what promised to be a dry but cold day.

Following the Pennine Way we reached Gaddins Dam where we saw some skinny dipping and thought by eck that was a bit fresh. Following a route overlooking Stoodley Pike we eventually reached Todmorden where we found a nice spot by the canal for elevenses.

Leaving Todmorden via Ramsden Wood and yet another wet up hill moor took us to the Trig Point at Trough Edge End.

It is here the wheels fell off and my rag & twine (outdated RD) snapped. Nothing on the RD looked what was on the ground. Chris got us to the top of The Long Causeway but probably been a bit addled we went down and found a nice spot for Lunch.

After lunch we deduced, we went the down the Long Causeway and should have turned R then L to the King Bill PH.

Many thanks to Chris and Mags who managed to get us back to the White House PH with a 20 mile route with some 3000ft of climbing, we were all happy that we never fully did the Aggin Stone Amble, it was more The Stanza Stone Route. (one of them anyway).

I did my best with a outdated RD, when no leader turns up you know your in a pea soup kind of day but I want to thank Chris Burrell and Mags Bluer for pulling me out of a hole.

Thank you, Aaron.

I look forward to Decagon Two, Adrian is to lead again and this boy scout shall be better prepared..
