The Dave Milne Way. March 13th 2011

The Dave Milne Way. 21 Miles

Sunday 13th March

Leader Karen Birkill

11 people met at Ludford Village Hall including two guest's from Lincolnshire and a rare Vermuyden appearance for Terry Griffiths.

This walk is a new Anytime Challenge Walk devised by Mike Surr in memory of Dave Milne who was a long standing member of the Lincolnshire group. Dave had a distinguished war record. Sadly Dave passed away in 2010 aged 94.

A very chilly and overcast start saw us leave Ludford heading towards Tealby.

The group approach Tealby for the first time.

Willingham woods

The Poplars Tea Room gave us a surprise mid-morning stop and a very welcome hot drink on a cool morning.

It was great seeing Dave Wolsey out and about again after his recent accident on the Tandem, as you can see not quite ready for twenty miles yet but we all wish him a speedy recovery. Seen here with wife Lesley and guest Jan

Heading towards The Church of St Peter at Walesby.

A chilly stop at St Peters, Walesby
Saint Peters is also known as The Ramblers Church. Until 1889 the 12th century Church was the Parish Church for Walesby. Being some way from the village itself, it fell into disuse. The Church was rescued and restored in the 1930's. It is now used for special occasions including a Ramblers Service in the summer. The church has a stained glass window depicting Ramblers but nobody's sure how the Church and walking became linked.

A dry valley as we head towards the deer farm near Risby

This group picture was taken outside Tealby Church after our Pub stop.

We had a quick late liquid lunch stop at The Kings Head at Tealby which according the information board was the oldest thatched pub in Lincolnshire. Empire ale was the order of the day and very nice it was. Mike Surr met us here with Certificate's and badges on offer, all proceeds going to the RNLI. After a few story's about Dave we set off to finish hopefully before dark.

A rare picture of Frank smiling after many years behind the camera he's managed to off load the job on another mug!!

Thanks Karen for a lovely walk the sun did eventually come out.
