An Everton Excursion - 19th January 2013

An Everton Excursion 19th January 2013

This group social walk incorporated our A G M and annual dinner. Eleven hardy souls ventured out on a bitterly cold and snowy January day to brave the elements and complete a twelve mile walk prior to our group A G M and annual dinner. The potential road conditions did deter some members from attending but in the event the main roads were clear of the snow that had fallen overnight and the side roads were passable. David Ashford led us in near Arctic conditions across Everton Carr by way of Tethering Lane and Black Bank to meet the River Idle by Everton Carr Farm. We then followed the River for a while before heading down Toft Hill Track and Pasture Lane to take the footpath through Barrow Hill Woods where the morning break was taken in a very pretty wintery scene. After the break we walked towards Mattersey along Stone Hill Lane and Youldholes Lane (both pleasant green lanes). On reaching Mattersey we paused at the Church for some walkers to take a look inside, returning to Everton via Pusto Hill Wood. Thanks once more to David for leading yet another cracking walk made even better by the wintery scenes and good walking on frozen ground (a very pleasant change from the mud we have seen recently).

We were greeted by five other Group members and a roaring log fire in the very welcoming Blacksmith's Arms in Everton village. After sampling some of their excellent cask ales we retired to the dining room where we all enjoyed a lovely meal and held a brief but successful A G M.
