The Series of walks are 10 open challenge walks I have decided to walk as part of my 50-year-old celebrations.

Number two, a riddle on words as not many twos but The Yorkshire Ridings 200 Furlongs we found.

Saturday 1^st March 8:00am

 Aaron & Pete turned up, Wendy was registered, and the missing man Adrian had materialised and had even recce’d said walk with Toff the dog, but more of that later.

So we set of from Swinsty rezzie on this 25ish mile route around Otley on what promised to be a dry, sunny but cold day.

Field walking was the motto of today, following part of the Six Dales route through Farnley we found Otley riverside for Elevenses.

Leaving Otley we followed the official path, not using the old rail line towards Pool in Warfedale, now heading generally North we found plenty of animals on this stretch, Highland Cattle, llamas and Red kites were in abundance. Lunch was took after a bit of a slog up Armscliffe Crag.

Still heading North we went through North Rigton, Adrian regaled his recce story of finding paths in this area that had him and the dog somewhat perplexed, half way up that hill, then that one. We had the pleasure of finding the gap in the hedge with yet another dodgy stile with some ease, cheers Ade.

Eventually we turned left and began our route East, but first the little matter of the pub. 20 miles in and Beckwithshaw a lovely little hamlet that  had a wonderful Smiths Arms.

Fully watered we set off on this last 5 miles along farm tracks and following the telegraph poles, it must be said here Ade and Toff the dog did this section in the dark.

Finding Beaver Dyke Reservoir then John o’Gaunts, missing the Sun Inn we found our way back to the cars by 5:30pm

Well done, Ade, some 27 miles in 8.5 hours and no need for torches.

The lad does good when he turns up, see ya again Ade, October 11^th, Number 9…….
