Misson Meander

Misson Meander 15th April leader John Wooley.

11 walkers left the car park at Hatfield moor on a dry and part sunny day. We walked towards and through Boston Park farm towards Branton and past the free range chicken farm, so good to see the chickens outside and not cooped up, and through to Branton and then Aukley.

We continued on to Blaxton and then over fields that had been mined for sand and gravel to arrive at our morning stop at the village pond at Finningley.

It was great to sit in the sun and watch the ducks and also some wonderful displays by peacocks on the banks. We continued on to our pub stop at the Angel at Misson where we sat outside in the sun, very pleasant and then suitably refreshed continued on our way to Wroot.

We had our final stop at the church and beacon at Wroot and then our final push to Hatfield moor. The sun had gone in so we had little chance of seeing adders sunning themselves so continued on through the moor and observed the devastation caused by the extraction of the peat but as always with nature it is starting to repair itself. Thanks John for such a great walk and with very little mud water to walk through.
