Eight folk turned up in the layby across from the Norfolk Arms Ringinglow Sheffield on what promised to be a dry-ish day with rain heading in later.

The Sheffield Round Walk is a 15 mile route around Sheffield, 6 Vermuyden members with two visitors present we began downhill on the Limb Valley trail.

First up was Ladies Spring Wood then Park Bank Wood then Chancet Wood, elevenses were took in Graves Park. Toilets here were a bonus for the ladies and fellas of a certain age. 

Bishops House and Meersbrook Park was next with the view opening up overlooking Sheffield and beautiful Downtown Bramall Lane the home of the mighty Sheffield Utd.  

Crossing Abbeydale Road we began a climb in earnest, Erica and Kevin were somewhat in front most of the day as the path was signposted making navigation no problem but through Brincliffe Edge Wood I had to call Erica as one of the posts were somewhat sun damaged, I wondered if they had missed a turn off as they were not on the road at the top but had wandered into the park opposite, once all back together we all entered Chelsea Park.

A bit of urban-ness next, it must be said that Sheffield is a very green city with not much urban walking all day. Just before Hunters Bar we found a lovely little micro pub on the A625, the Beer House was our lunch stop and they didn’t mind us eating our sandwiches.

Over the main roads we entered Endcliffe Park and just before the café another call was made to Erica as they had both missed the stepping stones to view the American Airman Mi Amigo memorial. Then a 4-mile route uphill back to the cars saw us through Whitley Woods where we found some lovely mandarin ducks in the ponds, from here uphill though Porter Clough eventually back onto the Ringinglow Road where some were a little dishevelled and glad we found our cars.

A very enjoyable day around the county’s capital but a surprising route with not much in the way of roads or urban-ness well done Pete for leading.
