The Liquorish Way

What promised to be a dry warmish day, few of us eight LDWA members left our waterproofs in the car as to leave a little room for something sweet later.

Aaron set out the day with elevenses took on a wall in Featherstone, lunch at North Featherstone. Water stop at Normanton church and just shout up if you need a wild wee stop.

Finding the footpath behind the big house of Heath Common we made our way to Warmfield, then some fun began.

Following the path through the ‘old’ pit works we came to the flooded bridge we found on the Good Friday recce, this had dried out a bit and found ourselves in Old Syndale then a few wet fields later took us to Acton Road then Acton Pond to turn right through the wooded paths and into Featherstone.

Following straight through Featherstone Green Ln we then had elevenses on a low wall on Halfpenny Ln.

Following Halfpenny Lane over the railway this took us to a pleasant path into Pontefract finding the bridge over Jubilee Way we found the liquorish Way sign for our group photo then like kids in a sweetshop we found the Haribo Factory shop open for business.

Following Jubilee Way, crossing into Pontefract Park we followed around the racecourse then field walked to North Featherstone where lunch was taken at the Bradley Arms.

Leaving t’pub we followed at the side of the school and dropped down to the industrial park. Negotiating the footpath around the pond we crossed the busy A655. Now entering Normanton we had a quick stop at the church as the day had become very warm.

Dropping down through Altofts we joined the Aire and Calder navigation passing Stanley Ferry a short mishap saw us back on track (just follow the TPT to Heath lad!!)

We parted our ways after a smashing day in Westie land.

Well done Aaron for leading and Chris for devising in 2011
