A Doncaster Dawdle - Jan 2016

Vermuyden walk from Marshgate on Jan24th led by Dave and Bill.

19 walkers started on a cloudy dry and mild day.

We started from Marshgate, Doncaster, Walking past the prison and then onto the bank of the river Don and through the hamlet of Newton.

We continued on to Sprotbrough then left the river and continued on through Pot Riding Wood where Dave Newbould slipped. Dave could not continue as it appeared he had broken his foot.  We had to send off to the mountain rescue to get him out to the ambulance. Six walkers stayed with him to help and 12 continued on the walk past Denaby Ings and onto Barnborough and the Coach and Horses pub for refreshments.

In another time and place!

We were informed Dave had been transported to the ambulance and the remaining 6 walkers were continuing on the walk to meet us. After refreshments we continued onto the Barnborough crags then onto High Melton where we were met by the remaining 6 walkers and continued on through Melton wood and onto Sprotbrough. We then continued on to Cusworth hall, through the park onto a disused railway track back down to the river bank and retraced our route to Marshgate.

The walk was a very eventful 21 miles and we hope Dave gets well soon.
