Colne Valley Trail - Joint with Calderdale LDWA - 2023

12 LDWA members from Vermuyden LDWA, Calderdale LDWA and a couple of visitors met at Golcar car park ready for a bit of a tough hilly 14ml social walk. We had one returning from injury and a newbie (Maria) having never walked further than 7ml before.

Leaving the environs of Huddersfield we found the Narrow Canal by crossing the Manchester road and began the climb onto the Southern side of the Colne Valley.

The path turning into a Peru jungle path getting close to the edge to give great views along the valley towards Marsden. We all thought this section was a little bumpy.... more was to follow later.

Turning right at Butterley reservoir we dropped to the pleasant village of Marsden. Finding our way through passing the old mill, church and crossing the cut again at Standedge tunnel.

Now began the biggest climb of the day towards Cupwith Hill but we turned right towards Wilberlee, a short water stop was took here as Maria was beginning to tire.

Lunch was took at the rather nice bridge over Bradshaw Clough.

The Sting in the tail.... Getting from here to Golcar...

Down and up: Barret Clough, Crimbel Clough where the nice folks at number 18 filled Maria's bottle...

Ready for the last push over Heath House Wood (Maria's smile never faded all day).

Yet another smashing day was had, many thanks to the Calderdale team for a welcome change in their neck of the woods.

And Thank you Jane for leading
