Please see the below from John Erick, I think these answers your question?

Non-Members on LDWA social walks - The aim is to allow non-members to do some "taster" walks to decide whether or not to become a member. Hence non-members are covered by LDWA insurance for up to three social walks but not thereafter.

Non-members on LDWA challenge events - Entrants who are non-members are not covered by LDWA insurance (but could be encouraged to join the LDWA when they enter and obtain insurance cover). The LDWA's Public Liability insurance protects event organisers if another member or a non-member sues them for injury or damage allegedly caused by them. The insurance does not provide cover if the organisers' actions are found to be deliberate or reckless.

Challenge event volunteers - LDWA insurance covers non-members as long as they are official volunteers, i.e. they have an official role which is recorded by the organisers. The insurance cover therefore excludes any casual volunteers, e.g. someone without an official role.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need anything else.

Kind Regards
