IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT CAR PARKING:  Please follow marshals’ directions at all times.

Parking is now available at Pitstone Memorial Hall (LU7 9EY) and at Pitstone Green Museum which is directly opposite the hall, then if need be along Westfield Rd . Please be patient and follow the directions of the Marshals.
In the event of heavy rain we may not be able to use the Museum so are going to have to use Westfield Rd (7 minutes walk to hall). If this happens an email will be sent out the night before. Also the parking in the Museum is at the discretion and generosity of the farm owner whose house backs on to the fields, so could you please keep the noise down when arriving and leaving.

EVENT DATE:              Sunday 3rd March 2019

VENUE:                        Pitstone Memorial Hall, Pitstone LU7 9EY. O/S 1:50000 maps 165 & 166 or O/S 1:25000 map 181, GR SP 937 155

CAR PARKING:           Details of event parking will be sent out with the final instructions towards the end of February.
                                     This is due to the previous company being unable to let us use their premises
                                     Please follow marshals’ directions.

Further details will be available to download when grid reference sheets are available.

START TIME:                08.00-0830 for 26 & 18 routes, 0830- 0900 for 13.mile route, 0900-0915 for runners.

FINISH TIME:                All must aim to finish by 18.00hrs. The hall will close at 19.00hrs.

OBJECT:                      This is a map reading event. To complete a course on foot by a route of your own choice passing through a number of control points within a given time limit.  
                                     There will be three routes, one of approx 13 miles, one of approx 18 miles and one of approx 26 miles.

WALK DETAILS:           The walk follows mainly field paths, tracks and woods through undulating countryside, with good views from the hills traversed.

MAPS:                           O/S 1:50000 Landranger 165 or O/S 1:25000 Explorer 181 are needed to cover all 3 routes.

EQUIPMENT:                PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN MUG. A pen or pencil is essential. Waterproofs, map cover, compass and torch (spare batteries and bulb) if finishing after dark are advisable.

RETIREMENTS:            If you retire, PLEASE let an official know. Transport will be provided back to the start from the checkpoints.

ENTRY FEES:               Adults: LDWA members £7.00, non-LDWA £10.00 Under 16s £3.00. Entry limit of 300

                                      There will be no entries on the day. (See entry fees above)

                                      For postal entries please include a stamped, self- addressed envelope (9” x 4” min) for route sheet or supply an email address. All entries are non-transferrabe

                                      Refund on cancellation before 17th February 2019 £2.00 admin will be charged, after that date no refund will be paid.

REFRESHMENTS:       There will be refreshments at 3 checkpoints on the 26 mile route. 2 checkpoints on the 18 mile route & 1 checkpoint on the 13 mile route but you should also bring some food and drink with you.
                                      At the end of the walk a hot meal will be served.

AWARDS:                     Each entrant who answers the questions correctly will be awarded a certificate. Badges will be on sale. 
                                      Results will be sent to those who address an envelope at the hall and will also be published on the BBN website. Postage is included in the entry fee

Note 1. If an entrant is under 16 on day of event, he/she must be a member of LDWA or be accompanied at all times by his/her parent or guardian. If under 16 and a member of LDWA please quote membership number.

Note 2.  The organisers of The Chiltern Kanter (the event) will not be held responsible for any injury sustained, nor loss of any property during the event or in any connection with the event. The entrant agrees to the rules of the event and to follow the country code.
