BBN AGM – Walk, Lunch and Meeting – A round-up from Terry, our retiring Chair.

This year our AGM day on 26 November was based at Great Doddington near Welingborough. During a very cold morning Sir Hikealot, aka Alan Leadbetter, led an 8 mile walk along and around the Nene Valley with lovely river views and a mix of mud, grass and firm tracks. Our return to Great Doddington at midday was very well timed as it had just started to rain and The Stags Head pub was open! Thanks to Alan for leading the walk, arranging the pub lunch and Memorial Hall for the meeting.

23 members attended the meeting. As myself and Peter Engledow had completed six years in our Officer roles, we weren’t seeking re-election but fortunately we had two super nominations and elected Sarah Feal as Chair and Francoise Bannister as Treasurer. Thanks to both of them for ‘stepping up’ and we wish them all the best in their new roles. Gill Bunker was also re-elected as Group Secretary.

For the Committee - we thanked Mary Knight for all her work as she had stood down during the year. Peter Engledow and I agreed to join the Committee and the five current Committee Members - Sara Waldron, Roy Carter, Mike Hyland, Chris Burns and Nick Emery - were re-elected.

The reports covering last year’s activities showed that we’d had a very full and busy year of special events and walks to celebrate our 40th Anniversary and organising our very popular Challenge events. We expressed thanks to all who contribute in many ways to help BBN be the successful Group it is. But we could always do with more help - whether leading social walks, marshalling on challenge events or doing a job of some sort for the Group. Please get in touch with your offer.

During the meeting Norman Corrin gave a lovely speech thanking Peter and me for the work we’d done during our time as Officers. Thank you, Norman, and to everyone, for the very acceptable drinkable gifts! As I said at the meeting, and I’m sure Peter agrees, it has been an immense privilege to serve the Group as an Officer. I certainly found it a rewarding and enjoyable experience and would like to thank you all for your kindness and support.

With best wishes

Terry Brown
