Christmas Walk & Lunch | Sunday 11 December 2022

Walk Leader: Lynn Hathaway
Participants: 12
Mileage: 10.4 miles
Ascent: 1,300 ft
Walk Report: Robert Cope
Weather: Cold, frosty and dry. Sunny for the most part

Our route from Kilburn started initially with a climb almost to Cold Kirby, then west across Cold Kirby Moor and returning via the Cleveland Way and down the steps adjacent to the White Horse.  A sort of Kilburn Kanter Challenge with a "bit of a shortcut" - but we had an important engagement for lunch!  The cold and frosty conditions meant that the normally muddy sections were pleasantly crunchy and the blue sky and sun made for some fabulous views - for the most part at least.  Having promised our guests the "Finest Views in England" on our return via Sutton Bank the mist then descended upon us as we stopped for our mid morning break, with the sun and clear skies only returning after the gliding club at the top of the White Horse!  Ah well, another time perhaps, it will still be the finest view in England!

We made it back to the Forresters Arms in good time where we were delighted to be joined by several other members.  Our party, now comprising eighteen, then enjoyed a hearty Christmas lunch - and a good old chin wag.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
