Step Out in Swaledale | Wednesday 27 October 2021

Walk Leader: Jill King
Participants: 8
Mileage: 13 miles
Ascent: 2,400 ft
Walk Report: Jill King
Weather: Damp and very windy

Never mind a step out, it was more like a blow out. We welcomed John et al and all introduced ourselves before setting off across the fields to Marske, onto the 17th century Pillimire Bridge and a quick photo shoot by the old water wheel. Climbing up onto Skelton Moor, we witnessed the most intact rainbow and encountered the gale force winds. Even changing direction slightly across Hurst Moor didn’t improve things.

Our weather, apart from the winds, varied from light drizzle to longer rainshowers but nothing to distract from the wonderful scenery that can only be Swaledale.

Arriving at a very familiar gate on Fremington Edge, many of us had memories to share of doing the Swaledale Marathon that comes up here early on into the Challenge event. Although it was difficult to have conversations through gritted teeth and keeping upright, we managed to still talk a lot and finished the walk on a bridleway from Nun Cote Nook farm back to our start point.

We all enjoyed the walk.
