What a "grand day out".  We could not have expected such wonderful weather for this time of year with fantastic views 360 degrees all day long.  Almost summer.

Leaving Thruscross car park we walked on the west side of the reservoir through colourful, autumnal woodland before reaching the road.  We headed through fields (and bog) and gates before reaching a well marked track and on to Alma Hut shooting lodge.  The sun here was so inviting we parked up for our morning group break.  Eventually, the track finished just above Sykreholme.  On reaching the small hamlet we took our ascent to Simon Seat via a lesser used but more interesting track of small rockery, wild heather and foliage.  Was Simon a Lord (from 1771) or an infant found by a shepherd (1838)?  That's the history of it.

We descended on the tourist track (to Bolton Abbey) but turned left through Argill House and then Broadshawe farm.  From here our route continued to turn east on good tracks back to our vehicles at Thruscross.

Thank you to our walk leader and fellow walkers for an enjoyable day.
