Malhamdale Three Peaks | Saturday 27 August 2022

Walk Leader: Jo Poskitt
Participants: 9
Mileage: 20 miles
Ascent: 3,070 ft
Weather: Mainly sunny in the morning, cloudy in the afternoon.  Little wind and humid all day.

We set off from the Blacksmiths Forge in the centre of Malham which was very busy with visitors to the Annual Show.
We used a footpath through a wooded area which brought us out on Cove Road. We left Cove Road and joined the Pennine Bridleway and using the steps climbed to the top of Malham Cove. We continued on this track crossing Kirkby Fell to reach a junction at SD 850 659.Where we then progressed on the wallside path across Knowe Fell
and Fountains Fell to reach our first peak of the day.
From this point  we joined the Pennine way striking North East and we arrived at our second peak of the day . We had a break here.
From this point a decision was made to then cross over Darnbrook Fell and  complete our 3rd Peak of the day.. We then had another wallside Footpath section and then a very Steep descent again hugging the Wall to reach Darnbrook House.
On our approach through the field to Darnbrook House we were " Welcomed " very vociferously by a group of Belted Galloways as they had young calves. No confrontation took place and we passed through safely to reach the Footbridge over Cowside Beck. After crossing the Footbridge we ascended on Middle House Hill to reach Monk,s Road. From this point we further progressed to reach the junction of Footpaths and Tracks at Street Gate.We then continued  South on Malham Links Road back to Malham.
On our return the village was still very busy with visitors to the Annual Show .
A Tough day which needed Maximum Concentration but our leader passed the test with Flying Colours .
Well done Jo.
