Ann's Tough Walk | Saturday 30 July 2022

Walk Leader: Ann Grainger
Participants: 4
Mileage: 20 miles
Walk Report: Ann Grainger
Weather: Warm, humid, showers, mist and wind

We set off from Askrigg car park, weather very humid as we walked up through Newbiggin and Heugh.  While walking up Beldhaw Hill the weather changed to light rain and misty.  We stopped at Greets shooting Lodge (the view of Semerwater was non existant  due of the mist). We took a right turn along Long Bank Road, then a left turn over Thorne Sike to Summer Lodge Tarn (we saw 2 manikins fishing).  We then followed the boundary fence right to the road.  The weather brightened up as we made our way to Oxnop Scar and down to Satron. (Lunch on a bench looking down Swaledale).  From there we followed paths through the meadows to Ivelet bridge then a steady climb up to Snowden Gill where we turned right to scramble up to the cairn at the top of Oxnop (very windy).  We had another break in a shelter at Blackthorn Edge.  On the way back we passed the waterfalls in Whitfield Gill and Mill Gill. We enjoyed the day.
