We gathered on a windswept common with an overcast sky and the threat of rain later. We set off down past Nutwith Cote then along the river Ure to Hackfall woods, going via the fountain which sadly is currently out of action. The woods were mercifully less muddy that feared, given all the rain we have had recently. Onwards across country to Azerley Park, where we took our morning break on a low farmhouse garden wall. Then onwards and into more woods, fording a stream. Then on to Birkby, then past Galphay Mill on the banks of the River Laver and upstream alongside the Laver through more woodland. Then North to Galphay and a lunch stop (where a couple of Irregulars had a quick pint at the pub). Onwards North past Braithwaite Hall and then skirting Kikby Malzeard. Across country to Foulgate then through the Himalayan Garden, through Nutwith Common and back to the cars just after 4pm. The rain mercifully held off and we had a good day out.
