23rd/24th September - Six Dales Trail

Six Dales Trail - 23rd/24th September 2017

After embarking on our hired 16 seater bus we travelled (not too early) from Otley to Middleham to start our two day trail through six dales of the most unspoilt areas of Yorkshire.  Starting in Middleham (Wenslydale) we passed the outstanding remains of Middleham Castle - the childhood home of Richard 111 , through the 18th century parkland surrounding the ruins of Jervaulx Abbey and entrance to delicious ice cream makers, "Brymor".  (Coverdale and Colsterdale).  No time for ice cream today though!!  The terrain varied from undulating pastures and heather moorland, stretches of fast flowing rivers to small forested areas.  The entire route is full of interest and opens up areas that have not been downtrodden and eroded by the passage of fellow walkers. Part of it's beauty is given to the wonderful watersheds that are prominent as you traverse the unspoilt landscape continuing through Nidderdale Washburndale and Wharfedale ending in Otley on tired legs, but still with a spring in our step.

For those who are contemplating, stop it.  Just go do it - you won't be disappointed.
