Wharfedale Three Peaks | Saturday 9 July 2022

Walk Leader: Jo Poskitt
Participants: 8
Mileage: 22 miles
Ascent: 4,000 ft
Walk Report: Robert Cope
Weather: Warm/hot, sunny all day and little wind

Setting off from Kettlewell we followed the generally accepted route of the Wharfedale Three Peaks challenge in Upper Wharfedale.  Essentially this comprised the anticlockwise ascents of Great Whernside and then Buckden Pike up the right-handside of the Wharfe before crossing the Wharfe at Yockenthwaite and returning down the left-handside of the Wharfe via Birks Fell.

Though not as well known as the Yorkshire Three Peaks this was definitely a much quieter walk and also tougher terrain in parts over bogs, moorland, farm and sheep tracks - and sometimes no tracks at all!  And some terrific views on such a clear day.

A tough day’s outing given the terrain, the ascents and almost total sun.  Thanks to Jo for her expert navigation and metaphorically “going the extra mile” in leading us despite being under the weather.
