Lake District Weekend | Saturday & Sunday 2-3 July 2022

Saturday 2 July | Coledale Horseshoe

Walk Leader: Jon & Wendy Leete
Participants: 4
Mileage: 12 miles
Ascent: 3,500 ft
Walk Report: Wendy Leete

We met and started on the bridge by the pencil museum in Keswick.  It wasn't too bad a forecast but then in the lakes there is no forecast - just prepare for all eventuallities.    Unfortunately, due to everyone engaging in conversation we missed the footpath that would have taken us en route up to Grisedale Pike.  We took a wider track signposted to Forge Cragg Mines.  We started off dry but were soon putting on our waterproofs and on reaching the summit of Crag Hill we were in full mist and dampness.  From here, all any other major climbing was done.  On descending to Sail and then Causey Pike the weather began to improve.  We returned via Swineside and Portinscale enjoying tea/coffee before reaching Keswick.

Sunday 3 July | Watendlath Circular

Walk Leader: Jon & Wendy Leete
Participants: 4
Mileage: 12 miles
Ascent: 2,560 ft
Walk Report: Wendy Leete

The weather today was supposed to be much better according to the forecast - no way.  Waterproofs on/off on/off.  You get my drift?? It was slightly warmer though although still wet when we set off.  Our climb today took us to Walla Crag and then over to Bleaberry Fell.  Continuing towards Watendlath the path was boggy much of the way.  Fortunately, the path had also been update with stone paving which prevented what could have been a very arduous trek.  After leaving High Tove it was downhill all the way to Watendlath.  By the time we had left this small hamlet it was safe to take off our waterproofs.   Surprise view never fails to surprise and Ashness bridge is as ever beautiful.  Making our way round the shore of Derwentwater we arrived back in Keswick having had a most enjoyable two days.

Thank you to the two ladies that joined us for both days.
