Leaving a misty damp Sutton Bank we expected a damp day, what we got was an original route over paths none of us had trodden on before, visited hamlets we hadn't heard of before, and only a brief shower of rain.  We walked through natural ancient woodland below Sutton Bank to reach Thirlby; after which we encountered the first adventure of thrashing through overgrown unwalked paths where only a few stings were suffered and we came to the rescue of a truck driver panicking about a wasp sting.  Long grass in fields slowed us down somewhat, but we had lunch in the beautiful little village Thirkleby.  We stopped for ice creams at Byland Abbey before the  steep climb up to Scotch Corner - where some of us found a supply of fresh raspberries.

A fantastic walk with a lovely chatty crowd.
