Wild Boar Fell & 3 Castles | Saturday 10 July 2021

Walk Leader: Martyn Smith
Participants: 10
Mileage: 18 miles
Ascent: 1.838 ft
Walk Report: Andy Miller

Weather:               Low Cloud and Fog in the morning which lifted Mid Morning to give a warm sunny day where we could see marvellous views all day long

We met at our arranged parking area at the village school .After our short conversations about the Wimbledon results (Tennis) and the forthcoming
Euro football final .(Good Luck England) we set off up through the village to pass Town Head Farm and then take a FP SW all the way to Stennerskeugh .
We then took the Pennine BW all the way across Wild Boar Fell which unfortunately  had Low Mist and Fog  obscuring The Nab Which was our intended viewpoint .We had our break and Martyn decided that it was too great a risk to climb The Nab and we would be unable to see anything anyway .
We continued on The PW to reach Hazelgill.  We then headed Due North again on The PW in the now warm sunshine to reach Pendragon Castle and then we had another short break before Lammerside Castle ,and  on our way to Croglam Castle a Red Squirrel was spotted by 3 witnesses Charlotte please take note.
From Croglam Castle we then took the Coast to Coast across Smardale Fell to reach Smardale Bridge and then due south back to Ravenstonedale . We then retired to The Black Swan for our fix of Caffeine to set us up for the drive home after another successful day where the banter and humour reached the highest of standards.

Martyn Smith:
I think we are all in agreement that Martyn made a fantastic job of setting
up and leading this walk in an area he knows very well.
Martyn kept us informed all day long about where we were walking, Points of interest , and the names of surrounding Summits as in the afternoon we could see for miles .
Martyn also gave us the history of the 3 Castles .I think that our members will also agree that YOU were King Of The Castle and Top Man on the Day. Thank You Martin

Raffles:
Anton won a bottle of Red and a first for Susan who won the box of Chocolates who I do hope she will share with Tony ?
